One of the region’s most notable business leaders passed away this weekend, as namesake company Majid Al Futtaim Group announced the passing of Emirati billionaire and founder Majid Al Futtaim on Friday.
Climbing the ranks from bank clerk to creating a business empire, his Majid Al Futtaim Group is famously known for its luxury malls, operating in different countries across the Middle East and North Africa, including Egypt.
Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum also announced Al Futtaim’s death in a post on Twitter, praising him as one of the sheikhdom’s “most important merchants.”
Sheikh Mohammed tweeted: “May Allah Almighty bestow his mercy upon our brother, Majid Al Futtaim, a creative businessperson, and one of Dubai’s most important senior businessmen. Majid Al Futtaim, a man of endless goodness, who never stopped giving back to his nation, recently employed 3,000 Emiratis. May his soul rest in peace.”
Majid Al Futtaim founded Majid Al Futtaim Group in 1992. The real estate and retail conglomerate which has three major subsidiaries – Majid Al Futtaim Properties, Majid Al Futtaim Retail, and Majid Al Futtaim Ventures – with projects and businesses in several countries.
