Controversy
Her widely acclaimed song, “Choli Ke Peeche Kya Hai,” became embroiled in controversy due to the use of crude terms in the song, and more than 50 politicians protested her song, which was subsequently banned from being broadcast on Doordarshan and All India Radio.
She also accused Anuradha Paudwal of taking her songs and using them for voice dubbing and executing without her consent.
Personal Life
On March 20, 1966, in Kolkata, West Bengal, Alka Yagink was born to a well-to-do, royal Gujarati family. She was a good student but did not pursue her studies further.
She was rather drawn towards music since she was a child, and therefore began her musical career in 1972, at the age of six, for Akashvani on “All India Radio” in Calcutta.
Her mother supported her a lot and as a result, she moved to Mumbai to become a renowned vocalist. She was rejected in the beginning because her voice was very soft and childlike, and she was urged to wait till her voice develops.
Her mother, Shubha Yagnik, is also an Indian Classical singer, and who passed on some of her musical abilities to Alka.
She regarded her mother to be her first Guru when she began learning music at the age of four. She then studied with legendary singers Kalyanji-Anandji and Laxmikant-Pyarelal.
She has performed in different genres, but she was most enthused and suited to romantic genres, so she sang largely love songs during her music career.
Alka tied the knot Shillong-based entrepreneur Neeraj Kapoor in 1989; they were estranged for 4 to 5 years before reconciling and living together. The couple has a daughter named Syesha Kapoor.

Career
Alka performed for the first time in her hometown of Kolkata at the Kala Mandir.
Alka delivered her first song as a playback singer in 1980 for the movie “Payal Ki Jhankar” song Thirkat Ang, and after that she lend her voice to the film “Tezaab” song Ek Do Teen in 1988, for which she received seven Filmfare Awards.
Yagnik has performed in over 20 regional languages, including Gujarati, Malayalam, Marathi, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, amongst many others.
Alka has broken the record of singing 2,486 Hindi songs for 1,114 films, putting her name in the chart of the most successful Bollywood singers.
She majorly loved to record her tracks in Mehboob Studio.
