According to a recent update by the Icelandic Meteorological Office,

the current volcanic process is “not over,” but it is “difficult to say when and where” the next magma dike would intrude into the Earth’s crust below the island nation1. The likelihood of an eruption in the area that scientists suspected has decreased, leaving them unsure of what may happen next.

The Fagradalsfjall volcano,

which is close to erupting, could explode like a “can of fizzy drink,” according to experts. Magmatic gas has been detected at a borehole in Svartsengi, signalling an imminent eruption of the volcano over the coming days, with the town of Grindavik most at risk.
