Introduction:1

During the school days I have participated and involved myself in a lot many art and

craft activities. We also had a subject on art and craft until the ninth grade. I wish to

talk about an interesting art activity that I did as a part of a campaign in school. The

campaign was to create awareness to save life.

Students from different schools and grades participated in this campaign. We were

given a space of 10 feet by 10 feet on the different pavement walls of our city.

Colors and brushes were also provided by the school authorities. Everyone was

free to paint anything on the theme of saving life. I painted about planting more trees

because they give us oxygen.

Amazing art was created by the budding artists. Themes like blood donation, organ

donation, giving way to the ambulance, wearing a mask, importance of exercise and

good food were painted. The walls looked splendid and colorful and the city looked

suddenly full of life and vibrant. It was as if all the walls of the city had a makeover.

Thousands of students had participated and that did the magic to brighten the city

with fresh paint.

I enjoyed the activity thoroughly. It was a therapeutic feeling to splash color and

paint the wall. Though I am not very good at painting but the activity in the group

was fun and satisfying. A lot of awareness was creating among the citizens and the

students also learnt and sensitized themselves. This activity is still very fresh in my

mind because it was very meaningful and purposeful.

Introduction:2

Well, although people’s interest in art and craft is dying yet I am an art enthusiast. I have tried my luck in few art forms.

What you made?
And here I would like to talk about calligraphy the art of decorative and stylish writing I learnt in my school days.

How you made it? and What it looked like?
I remember when I was in 5th grade a summer camp was organized in my school during summer vacations. Since, as a child, my handwriting was really poor so parents got me enrolled for writing classes. For few days I found it really hard going to classes as I wanted to have fun on holidays but soon few of my classmates also joined and I developed an interest in cursive writing.

It was not easy for me to change my writing class but the trainer was friendly and had a lot of patience. She boosted my morale and made me understand the importance of beautiful handwriting which is not only useful for academic purpose but in many other ways too.

For example, she told me with this skill we can make greeting cards and gift to near and dear ones and develop an interest in other art forms as well. My trainer provided me with few notebooks with dotted alphabets to practice and follow the shape properly. In about 2 weeks I started to write freely with very impressive writing and not only my parents but also my friends were so amazed to see me writing aesthetically rather than scribbling.

And how you felt about the activity? and Conclusion:
I had also made many posters later writing motivational thoughts in cursive and have pasted them in my study area. I must say it is a very important form of all for every child to learn to make them creative and artist.

Introduction 4

Art and craft have always fascinated me since my childhood.

What you made?

Although I had participated in many such activities during school time, I was regular at painting. I won an award when I drew a flowing river on the canvas.

How you made it? , and What it looked like?

During the summer holidays of the 6th standard, our teacher assigned a task to us. It was to draw a painting with nature as the theme.

Since I had plenty of time at my disposal, I had done a lot of research to find the correct theme for my painting.

Finally, I decided to paint the flowing Ganges river with the Himalayas in the background.

The task was not easy because you need to be accurate with colours when you have to draw nature on canvas.

It took me a week to draw the painting. Initially, I was very nervous, but eventually, I got into a state of flow.

From the 3rd day onwards, I started enjoying every second of my task

I drew it with precision. To come up with the right colour for the background, I had to mix various colours.

Finally, when I unveiled the painting at the school, I gained tremendous appreciation from the school. They gave me a good round of applause.

The school principal gave me a trophy along with a bunch of peonies.

And how you felt about the activity?

That day, I was on cloud nine because that moment changed my life’s trajectory and made me a confident person. After that, I participated in many other competitions and brought laurels to my school.

The admiration I had received that day would always remain etched in my memories.

Introduction:5

I am very fascinated by making art. Arts and crafts describe a wide variety of activities involving making things with one’s own hands. Arts and crafts is usually a hobby. Here I would like to talk about an art and craft activity that I did at school. It was during our art exam. My teacher asked all of us to make some unique paintings for our exam. I was excited and I believed that I will get the highest grades among all the students because my painting skills were better than all. That day after I went back home I did some research and learned new designs of paintings. I also practised making them in the evening. The next day it was my exam. I was feeling a little bit nervous but I had a belief in myself that I will perform well. At around 10 am our exam started. Our teacher gave us white sheets on which we have to make our painting and around 2 hours were allotted to us for completing the whole exam. I planned that I will make a night painting of the moon shining in the dark upon a river. I started making it and it took me around 1.5 hours to complete it. After completion, I was amazed by seeing the results. Final Painting came out extremely beautiful and dazzling. When my teacher checked it she appreciated my work and gave me an A grade. I was very happy that day. I was satisfied with what I have made. After that whenever anyone did any difficult painting work they used to take my suggestions. So this is the art and craft activity that I did.

Introduction:6

School days were fun and I miss those days very much.  However, there was another thing, that I really liked about my elementary school, which was the periodic art and craft activities. Today, I would like to describe one such activity that I did as a young elementary school student. There was a school competition in my school and our teacher asked us to make thread painting during the weekend.

Since I’d never made a thread painting before, I’d thought it would be a tough task. But it turned out that with the help of my mother, making a painting was actually just a piece of cake.

Well, to be frank, my memory fails me and I cannot recall the exact date when I attended the craft activity but I am sure it must be at the high school. I made a thread painting with the help of a needle and wool and it was on a cloth. I bought everything ready-made from the market. On the piece of cloth, I traced all the village scenes. On the one side, there was a well, ladies were getting water from it. On the other side, farmers were doing work in the field.

It seemed to be arduous work as it took 4 to 5 days to finish it but finally, it turned out to be quite rewarding. I got first prize and  Our hard work paid off. And my teacher was also very satisfied with my work and praised me. I felt that this kind of art and craft ideas encouraged me to use the imagination to create my own entertainment.

Introduction:7

I had art and craft as a subject in my schooling, where I was taught about different form of art and craft works. Moreover, I did many art and craft activities in my school days.

Now, I would like to describe an art and craft activity that I had at school.

I did several art works but the sand painting that I made during a school competition, is a memorable experience of those days. At that time, I was in 7th standard. Also, I enjoyed making painting, greeting card, sketching, wall hangings, origami and flower crafts.

Furthermore, the painting I made was a bunch flower. I used material such as colourful sand, glue and pencil. Firstly, I took a sheet of paper and made the outline of flowers with the use of pencil. Also, I made small leaves around them. Then, I applied glue according to the design.

Additionally, I poured red and yellow colour sand on the areas where glue was applied. After sometime, I cleaned the excess sand with the help of a brush. My painting was already looking so vibrant.

Then, I followed the same procedure, to paint the leaves. Finally, I completed my sand painting on time and kept it on the display.

Moreover, I was extremely happy with my painting. The flowers were looking beautiful. Also, I liked the combination of colours that I used to make my painting. The sand of red, yellow and green made a good combination.

In addition to this, I achieved first prize in the art and craft competition. I was praised by my teachers and friends. Everyone liked my painting and clicked pictures of it.

I felt delighted as it was huge thing for me. I made that painting with lot of love and everyone found my painting interesting.

Apart from this, the art and craft activity made me feel motivated. Furthermore, I decided to improve my techniques. I wanted to learn more about art and craft.

Therefore, this was an art and craft activity that I had at school.

Follow up Questions

  1. Do you think that the school curriculum should include art and craft

activities?

I feel and agree with this totally. Only core subjects are not enough for the

overall development of children and other subjects are also important.

Subjects like art and craft will help children a lot and develop their skills,

interests and creativity.

  1. What are the advantages of co-curricular/extra-curricular activities

according to you?

Such activities give a break to children from the routine work. Other types of

skills and interest are developed in children and they get a chance to pursue

their hobbies. It also helps them with building teamwork and leadership

skills.

  1. What should teachers do so that children develop interest in art and craft

activities?

Teachers should allow them to choose things of their interest. If a teacher

finds that the child likes to do something then the teacher should encourage

the child to do it and help him/her excel in it. Praising the child also helps

the child realize that he/she is good at something.

  1. What should parents do if children do not like to study but are expert in

art and craft activities?

Accepting this fact is difficult for the parents but I think that the parents

should try and accept this reality. Math and Science is not everything and

developing career is also possible in other fields. Sachin Tendulkar is an

excellent example of this.

  1. Do you think that there should be different art and craft activities for boys

and girls or they should be same?

Any talent or skill should not be compartmentalized in gender or religion or

age. There should be complete freedom about what to like and what

interests to develop. Art is art and should not be divided into men and

women.
